U.D. police seize 52 pounds of marijuana
By Linda Reilly, Times CorrespondentUPPER DARBY — Six men, believed to be members of a Jamaican drug gang, were taken into custody Saturday after 52 pounds of marijuana, with a street value of $90,000, was seized during a drug raid in Stonehurst Hills.
Wilton Anthony Johnson, 44, aka Farm Boy Johnson, David O. Chischam, David O’Sullivan Chisolm and Eric Newman, and Gavin Morgan, 19, both of whom live in the targeted house on the 400 block of Glendale Road, Upper Darby, Robert Rolston Fung, 56, of the 4000 block of Haverford Avenue, David Anthony Hinds, 37, of the 6500 block of Theodore Street, and Alwyn Paul Thomas, 35, of the 5400 block of Merion Avenue, all of Philadelphia, and Winston Anthony Richards, 29, aka Russel Lavon Richard, Richard Russell and Russell Rashad, of the 14000 block of West Cats Street, Houston, Texas, scattered inside the Glendale house when agents forced their way in shortly after noon on June 14.
“This house was part of a major drug distribution center,” police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said. “We received information and learned they were cutting up marijuana and selling pounds at a time. We had the place under surveillance and believe they were shipping items from across the country. We found FedEx receipts and one guy was from Houston, Texas.
“This is probably the largest amount ever seized by Upper Darby. Once again, narcotics unit Capt. George Rhoades Jr. and Sgt. William Kane were in charge of the investigation. We believe this is a small part of a national drug operation. We seized numerous cell phones, tally sheets, two butcher knives, a loaded 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, two cars, a 2004 Mercedes Benz and a 2005 Acura with Florida tags.”

The vice unit of the Pennsylvania State Police Troop K and the Delaware County Drug Task Force joined township uniformed and undercover narcotics officers, who simultaneously entered the residence.
“We broke down the front and back doors,” Chitwood said. “It was heavily secured.”
Morgan, armed with a handgun, ran to the second floor when police entered and retreated to a rear bedroom, police said.
“(Morgan) jumped out of a closet and attacked an undercover officer,” Rhoades said.
The six men are facing charges of violation of the Health and Safety Act. Morgan is facing additional charges of aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
Bail on Morgan was set at $2.5 million and the other five co-defendants at $1 million pending a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Nicholas Lippincott.
